The Payroll Assistant is integral to the smooth and accurate functioning of the organization's payroll system. Responsibilities include maintaining an efficient process for processing payroll, ensuring accurate and timely biweekly or monthly payroll runs, handling employee deductions, updates, and adjustments, and preparing year-end tax documents. The Payroll Assistant will also collaborate with relevant departments to acquire employee data for payroll processing, and efficiently handle employee inquiries related to payroll.
Qualifications for this role typically require a minimum of two years' experience in payroll administration, a working knowledge of various payroll systems, and a solid understanding of employment legislation related to payroll and human resources. The successful candidate should have strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. A working knowledge of accounting principles and experience with tax compliance are advantageous. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to keep confidential staff information secure and maintain a high level of integrity.
The expectations for the Payroll Assistant are to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency in all payroll-related activities, maintain a positive and professional attitude when addressing employee inquiries, and work collaboratively with other teams to ensure all payroll tasks are completed on time and to a high standard. The Payroll Assistant will report directly to the Payroll Manager and is expected to adhere to the company's policies and procedures at all times. This position may also require occasional weekend or after-hours work to handle payroll emergencies arising outside regular business hours.
